SUREURONET - Internationale Konferenz zum Wohnungswesen in Europa - Housing conference Cracow, Poland

Intention of the conference

A set of common problems has to be dealt with both in West and East European housing rehabilitation and urban renewal. On the basis of the research of the EU-funded project SUREURO (Sustainable Rehabilitation in Europe), the SUREURONET Housing Conference will bring together East and West European housing experts in order to contribute to a professional and political exchange of expertise, know how and good practices.
The international conference will focus on those aspects most relevant and needed for the situation of housing in transition which is characterised by a reduced state influence and the reduced ability of the public sector to invest in housing affairs. Therefore the questions to deal with in more detail are:
  • Different forms of ownership (condominium, individual flat ownership, co-operatives, public and private housing companies) and the related management problems.
  • The legislation of housing and ownership; problems of the private acquisition of property.
  • Consequences deriving from the transfer from state to local authority, private institutional or individual ownership and management.
  • Asset-management with a long-term perspective considering the dynamics of the economic and social environment and the effects on the value.
  • Planning, preparation, and realisation of sustainable rehabilitation projects in cooperation with the tenants and flat owners as well as with other relevant actors.
Audience of the conference
The conference will address the central and eastern and western European housing sectors´ actors, as there are:
practitioners, owners, local authorities, politicians and research experts.

This will create an international and interdisciplinary forum for exchange of experiences and good practice approaches. The participants will further benefit from recent (EU-)project findings, as the tools developed in SUREURO and from the experience in east German rehabilitation activities.
Encouraging future co-operation and networking between EU countries, Poland and other CEE countries, the conference activities are supposed to operate as a "kick off" providing medium term perspectives for the integration of eastern and central European housing into a common Europe. The task is to create an East-West network of relevant actors towards the development of a customer oriented and socially observant European housing market.
